Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 November 2026 · Applies to ZapDrop for Mac (com.zapdrop.desktop), ZapDrop: Mac File Transfer for iPhone (com.zapdrop.ZapDrop) and ZapDrop for Android (com.zapdrop.mobile).
The short version
We collect nothing. ZapDrop moves files directly between your phone and your own Mac on your Wi-Fi. The developer never receives your files, pairing codes, IP addresses, contacts, location or usage data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no crash-reporting SDKs.
How ZapDrop works
- ZapDrop for Mac runs a small server on your Mac. Your phone connects to it over your local network (Wi-Fi). Nothing passes through a ZapDrop server — we do not operate one.
- The apps refuse public internet addresses. Transfers use plain HTTP inside your local network, protected by a one-time pairing code.
- Your Mac announces itself on the local network (Bonjour,
_zapdrop._tcp) so phones can find it. This announcement includes the Mac's computer name and local IP address and is visible to other devices on the same network.
Data stored on your devices
- Files you send are saved on your Mac in Downloads/ZapDrop. Files you save on your phone go to Files › On My iPhone › ZapDrop (iPhone) or Downloads/ZapDrop (Android).
- Transfer history (file names, sizes, times, device names such as "iPhone") is kept on your Mac so you can see past transfers.
- Pairing details (your Mac's address and a session token) stay on your phone — on iPhone in the Keychain, on Android in app storage excluded from backups and phone-to-phone transfer. Sessions expire after about an hour.
- You can delete everything by deleting files from Downloads/ZapDrop and uninstalling the apps. On the Mac, app data is in ~/Library/Application Support/ZapDrop.
Permissions
- Local Network (Mac, iPhone) and Nearby Wi-Fi devices (Android) — to find your Mac and send files on Wi-Fi. Never used for location.
- Downloads folder (Mac) — to save files you receive.
- Photos / files — only the items you choose to send or save, through the system picker.
- Notifications (Android) — to show progress while a send is running.
Third parties
ZapDrop contains no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking code. Apple (App Store) and Google (Google Play) handle app downloads and may provide crash or usage statistics to developers under their own privacy policies; this website records standard web server logs (IP address, time, page) to keep it running and does not use cookies.
Children
ZapDrop is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone.
