Getting started

  1. Download ZapDrop for Mac, drag it to Applications and open it. Allow Local Network and Downloads when macOS asks.
  2. Install ZapDrop on your phone and connect it to the same Wi-Fi as the Mac.
  3. Tap your Mac under Nearby Macs, or type the address shown in the ZapDrop menu on the Mac, and enter the 6-digit code.

Common problems

"No Mac found"

Make sure ZapDrop is open on the Mac and both devices use the same Wi-Fi network (not a guest network). Some routers have "client isolation" or "AP isolation" turned on, which stops devices from seeing each other — turn it off, or type the Mac's address by hand.

Local Network was denied

iPhone: Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network › ZapDrop. Mac: System Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network › ZapDrop. Android: Settings › Apps › ZapDrop › Permissions › Nearby devices.

"Pairing expired"

Pairings last about an hour. Enter the new code shown on the Mac.

"Too many attempts"

After several wrong codes ZapDrop pauses pairing from that phone for a short time. Wait for the countdown, then enter the code exactly as the Mac shows it.

The Mac says ports are in use

Another copy of ZapDrop (or another app) is using ports 3400–3404. Quit it, or restart the Mac, then open ZapDrop again.

Sending stops when I leave the app (iPhone)

iOS pauses apps shortly after you switch away. Keep ZapDrop open until large sends finish.

Uninstalling

Quit ZapDrop from its menu, then move it from Applications to the Trash. To remove its data too, delete ~/Library/Application Support/ZapDrop. Received files stay in Downloads/ZapDrop.
