How it works

Step 1

Open ZapDrop on your Mac

It sits in the menu bar and shows a 6-digit pairing code.

Step 2

Pick your Mac on the phone

Your Mac appears under Nearby Macs. Enter the code to pair.

Step 3

Send

Files land in Downloads/ZapDrop, in parallel 8 MB chunks that resume if Wi-Fi drops.

Download for Mac

Download ZapDrop 1.0.0 (129 MB)

Signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple. Open the disk image, drag ZapDrop to Applications, then open it. When macOS asks, allow Local Network (so your phone can find the Mac) and Downloads (where received files are saved).

Questions

Does anything go through the internet or a server?

No. Your Mac is the server. The phone talks to it directly over your Wi-Fi, and both apps refuse public internet addresses. We don't operate any server that sees your files.

My phone doesn't see the Mac.

Both must be on the same Wi-Fi. Guest networks and "client isolation" (common in hotels, offices and some mesh routers) block devices from seeing each other. Also check that Local Network access is allowed for ZapDrop on the phone (iPhone: Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network) and on the Mac (System Settings › Privacy & Security › Local Network).

Why do I need to enter a code again?

For your safety, a pairing lasts about an hour. Enter the new code your Mac shows to keep sending.

Where do received files go?

On the Mac: Downloads/ZapDrop. On iPhone: Files › On My iPhone › ZapDrop. On Android: Downloads/ZapDrop.

Is it free?

Yes. No ads, no subscription, no account.
